Puppy Raiser FAQs
- Who is eligible to raise a puppy?
- Individuals aged 18 and older are welcome to become puppy raisers. Teens under 18 can participate as co-raisers alongside an adult, providing an enriching experience that fosters responsibility and can enhance college applications.
- What financial contributions are required from puppy raisers?
- While Dogs Inc covers most expenses related to the puppy’s well-being and healthcare, puppy raisers contribute by providing quality food and selecting approved toys. These contributions are vital to nurturing a healthy and happy puppy.
- Is travel involved in the puppy raising process?
- Yes, travel starts and concludes at our campus in Palmetto, Florida. You will collect your new puppy here and return at the end of the raising period for their formal training. These trips are significant milestones in the puppy raising journey.
- Can I bring my puppy to my workplace?
- Absolutely! We encourage taking the puppy to various public places to ensure they are well socialized. Please obtain prior approval from your workplace. If this isn’t feasible, we can assist in coordinating with a co-raiser or a trained sitter for puppy care during work hours.
- What if I have other pets at home?
- We encourage interactions between our puppies and other gentle, friendly household pets. If you have intact pets at home, ensure they are the same sex as the puppy you’ll raise, and conduct a simple health check for Brucellosis to ensure safety and harmony.
- What are the home environment requirements?
- Your home should be a safe, puppy-proofed haven, regardless of size. Ensure there is a secure area nearby for the puppy to relieve themselves. We perform occasional brief home visits to ensure the environment is perfectly suited for the new arrival.
- How long can I commit to raising a puppy?
- We offer flexible periods of 3, 6, or 12 months to accommodate different schedules. If these options seem too lengthy, consider volunteering as a puppy starter, sitter, or co-raiser for shorter but equally impactful experiences.
- What physical capabilities are required?
- Handling a growing puppy, especially of a large breed, does require some physical strength. It is crucial that all household members are prepared and enthusiastic about sharing the joys and responsibilities of raising a puppy.
- What kind of training and support will I receive?
- Even if you’re new to puppy training, our comprehensive support system, including Puppy Kindergarten, regular meetings, and personalized coaching sessions, along with a detailed manual and training videos, will empower you to effectively nurture a confident and social puppy.
- What about housing regulations concerning pets?
- Please check your housing community’s rules regarding pets, particularly any breed or size restrictions. It’s crucial to have the appropriate permissions in writing to ensure a smooth raising experience.
- How impactful is the role of a puppy raiser?
- As a puppy raiser, you play a pivotal role in transforming a cuddly puppy into a confident guide dog who will one day change someone’s life profoundly. Are you ready to embark on this life-changing journey?
