What to expect when you’re expecting a guide dog.
Congratulations! You have been approved to receive a guide dog from Dogs Inc. As you eagerly await the arrival of your guide dog, you may be wondering what to expect. It’s normal to feel a mix of excitement, nervousness, and eager anticipation. These feelings are a testament to the life-changing experience that awaits you.
Please keep in mind that the waiting process can vary in duration. On average, approved applicants receive a dog within 12 months, but the duration can vary depending on a wide range of circumstances. While it may feel like time is dragging on, every moment brings you closer to the incredible bond you’ll share with your future guide dog.

Dogs Inc Online Prep Lab
Once your application is approved, you’ll be enrolled in Dogs Inc Online Prep Lab, which offers online coursework for students who are receiving a dog from Dogs Inc. This online training is the first of its kind and serves as a stepping-stone to receiving your dog. It’s important to note that the courses do not determine which dog you will get or when you will be matched with a dog; instead, they prepare you for caring for and working with your dog. Learning about guide dog training, dog care and behavior, and familiarizing yourself with the responsibilities of being a guide dog handler can all help ease any anxiety and make the waiting period more productive.
